Pregnant and postpartum people in the U.S. are significantly and increasingly vulnerable to mental health and substance use challenges, including postpartum depression, bipolar disorder and postpartum psychosis. Because of historic health inequities, risks are even greater for people of color in the perinatal period.

Understanding prevalence of serious mental illness during the perinatal period and effective treatments will assist integrated care providers in offering individuals and families with the continuum of care they need.

Join the fourth session in the Perinatal Health Webinar series, Perinatal Health Part 4: Addressing Serious Mental Illness, to learn more about the needs and opportunities for addressing serious mental illness during the perinatal period. During this webinar, you will hear insights from experts at a perinatal psychiatric consultation program (NC Maternal Mental Health MATTERS) and from a mother-baby psychiatry unit (UNC Perinatal Psychiatry Inpatient Unit), who will discuss their comprehensive approaches to integrating medical and mental health and substance use treatment services during the perinatal period.
